Quickstart
This guide walks you through capturing a location in Scaniverse and confirming that it localizes successfully.
By the end of this guide, you will:
- Create a Site, which represents a real-world location.
- Capture and upload Scans within that Site to generate Assets, including meshes and splats.
- Create an Asset Version and set it to Production so it can be used for localization, which aligns a device to the scanned space.
- Test localization in Scaniverse.
This guide covers the following steps:
- Install - Install and sign in to Scaniverse.
- Create a Scaniverse account - Sign yourself up or accept an invitation to an existing Organization.
- Create a Site - Create a Site to organize your scans.
- Capture and upload - Capture overlapping scans and upload them for processing.
- Generate and publish - Generate a new Asset Version and set it to Production.
- Test - Return to the location and confirm successful localization.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have the following:
- An iPhone 13 or newer. iPhone Pro models with LiDAR produce higher-quality results. Android support is coming soon.
- Physical access to the location you want to scan.
- A New Scaniverse account. If you don't have an account, follow the steps in Create a Scaniverse account.
Plans and pricing
Scaniverse offers subscription plans with different levels of usage capacity. Higher tiers provide increased processing credits, storage, collaboration capabilities, and additional features for production workflows.
Pricing scales with usage, allowing individuals to experiment with smaller projects while giving teams and organizations the resources needed to manage larger environments and deployments.
For current plan options and limits, see Plans and Pricing.
Install the Scaniverse app
The Scaniverse app includes a New experience designed for team workflows and cloud processing. To use it, existing users must create a new Scaniverse account; you can use the same email address. The Classic experience remains available for single scans and local processing.
Existing Scaniverse users can update to version 5.2 or later, then switch to the New experience as follows:
- Open the Scaniverse app.
- Tap LIBRARY at the bottom of your screen.
- Tap the Settings wheel at the top of the screen.
- Tap Discover the New Scaniverse.
- Tap Continue.
- Log in using the email address associated with Scaniverse or authenticate with Google.
Create a Scaniverse account
You can create a Scaniverse account by signing yourself up or by accepting an invitation into an existing Organization in Scaniverse.
If you are in multiple Organizations, go to Profile and select the appropriate Organization from the select Organization dropdown.
Sign yourself up
You can sign yourself up on the Scaniverse app or in Scaniverse Web.
- Open the Scaniverse app or navigate to Scaniverse Web.
- Select the New experience. You can't use the Scaniverse NSDK with the Classic experience.
- Select Continue.
- Tap Sign up at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose a sign-up method:
- Sign up with Email to associate your email with your Niantic login.
- Sign up with Google to authenticate with your Google account.
- Select the verification link sent to your email to activate your account. If you don't receive an email, check your spam or junk folder.
- Enter an Organization name.
- Select Allow Once or Allow While Using App to grant Scaniverse permission to use your location.
Accept an invitation
You can also create an account by accepting an invitation from someone inside an existing Organization.
- Ask someone inside an existing Organization to complete the steps to add others.
- Select the Accept Invitation link sent to your email to activate your account. If you don't receive an email, check your spam or junk folder. A web browser opens to prompt you to join Scaniverse.

Contact Niantic's Sales team if you have questions or need additional capacity for production deployments.
Check usage quotas
Quotas apply per user within an Organization for:
- The number of total private Sites they can create
- The total number of minutes of scan processing time.
The Free tier plan includes:
- 5 total private Sites
- 25 minutes of scan processing time
You can check your usage against your plan in the Scaniverse Dashboard as follows:
- Log in to Scaniverse Web.
- Select Dashboard from the left navigation bar.
The Dashboard shows the total number of private Sites and scan processing minutes towards Asset Generation relative to your quotas.
If you need to increase your quota, select Contact sales to reach out to Niantic's Sales team. See Plans and Pricing for plan details.
Add others to your Organization
You can invite someone by email to join your Organization. They do not have to have an existing Niantic account.
- Log in to the Scaniverse Web.
- Select your profile at the bottom of the left navigation bar.
- Select Account settings.
- Select the name of the Organization that you want to add a person to.
- Select Send invite.
- Enter their email address. You can also select Add another to invite more people.
- Select Send invite.
- Ask the person to check their email for your invitation. The link in the email expires 7 days after you invite them.
Create a Site
Sites are private by default, meaning they’re accessible only to you and your Organization.
- Tap + button in the top-right corner. The Add private site screen opens.
- Enter a clear, descriptive, and unique name under Site Name.
- Tap Confirm.
Capture and upload
Capture overlapping scans of your location, then upload them for processing. Each scan supports up to five minutes of recording time and can cover up to 500 square meters.
Android support for the enterprise Scaniverse experience is coming soon. For now, use an iOS device to complete the following scanning workflow.
Capture
Capture overlapping scans of your location as follows:
- Open the Site you created in the previous step.
- Tap + Capture at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the red button at the bottom of the screen to start scanning.
- Move slowly through the space, capturing overlapping views.
- Tap the red button again to stop.
- Review the scan and tap Save.
Upload
After capturing scans, upload them so you can generate an Asset Version for localization:
- Open the Site you created.
- Tap the Scans tab.
- Select the scans you want to upload.
- Select Upload or Upload All.
Generate and publish
After your scans are uploaded, generate an Asset Version and set it to Production so it can be used for localization.
Generate an Asset Version
- Open the Scans tab for your Site.
- Select the checkboxes next to the uploaded scans that you want to process.
- Tap Generate Assets at the top right corner.
- (Optional) Enter a name under Version name.
- Tap Confirm.
Processing can take several minutes or longer depending on scan complexity. After processing completes, the Assets tab contains your new Asset Version, which defines the spatial data used during localization.
Publish
Newly generated versions are not active by default. To make one active, set the assets to Production as follows:
- Open the Assets tab for your Site.
- Tap the three horizontal dots next to the Asset Version name.
- Select Set as Production from the drop-down list.
Test localization
After setting an Asset Version to Production, return to the physical location to confirm that it localizes successfully.
Test in Scaniverse
- Go to the physical place you scanned.
- Open the Scaniverse app.
- Select your Site.
- Select the Assets tab.
- Select Localize.
- If prompted, allow camera access.
If localization is successful, the asset aligns with the real-world environment and remains stable as you move.
If localization fails
- Ensure you are in the same area that was scanned.
- Move slowly and point the camera at areas with strong visual detail.
- If localization continues to fail, capture additional overlapping scans and generate a new Asset Version.
